Pasig eyes personal learning devices for public school students

The Pasig City government is eyeing to provide public school students with personal learning devices for the coming school year, which will be held amid the COVID-19 pandemic .

In a post on Facebook on Tuesday, Mayor Vico Sotto said they are currently looking for funds to buy the devices.

"Ano man ang mangyari, hindi natin puwedeng hayaan na mahuli ang mga magaaral natin sa mga pampublikong paaralan...," he said, adding they are considering two possibilities for students: resumption of classes and virtual classes.

Sotto also said they are preparing better internet connections at the barangay level in order for students to download modules in case schools will resort to virtual classes as a precaution against COVID-19 this school year.

"We are already working with the Department of Education for any possibility for our students," Sotto said, adding the city government is also ready to assist DepEd in developing learning modules for the students.

Sotto's statement came hours after President Rodrigo Duterte said classes in the country will remain suspended until a vaccine against COVID-19 is made available.

In a televised address aired late Monday night, Duterte said he would not risk the lives of students without a vaccine.

"It spells disaster," he said.

DepEd has yet to comment on Duterte's statement. —KBK, GMA News
