47 COVID-19 positive inmates from Women’s Correctional waiting for retest

Forty-seven inmates who tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City are still waiting to be tested anew, according to Raffy Tima’s 24 Oras report on Wednesday.

“Medyo natagalan na. ‘Yon ang hirap kasi may bottleneck sa mga testing sa mga labs. Mayroon po tayong mga concerns doon kasi natapos na ‘yong 14 days and supposed to be ma-retest na,” CIW Superintendent Virginia Mangawit said.

So far, the institute has recorded a total of 49 cases of COVID-19, including two fatalities.

Mangawit said the remaining 47 COVID-positive inmates, who are isolated at “Site Harry” in the New Bilibid Prison, are in stable condition.

She added after the retest, those who will turn out negative will return to the CIW’s recovery area.

The institution’s new recovery area, which can house up to 50 inmates, is built with the help of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The facility also has a shower area and comfort room.

Aside from the recovery area, the ICRC also donated tablets so the inmates can video chat their relatives amid the jail visitation suspension. —Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
