Fire breaks out in Happyland in Tondo, Manila
A residential area in Happyland, Tondo, Manila was engulfed by fire on Saturday morning, according to a report on Dobol B sa News TV by Mao dela Cruz.
The fire broke out at 7:31 a.m. in Barangay 105, Zone 8, and quickly spread, prompting the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to raise Task Force Alpha, according to a report by Vonne Aquino on 24 Oras Breaking News.
Road 10 has been unpassable as 28 BFP fire trucks and fire volunteers' trucks proceeded to the area to respond to the fire.
Residents also occupied half of the road as they tried to bring out what belongings they could save from their homes.
The Philippine Air Force helped in putting out the fire, sending pilots and crew from its 505th Search and Rescue Group under the Air Mobility Command to do three sorties of heli-bucket operations.
Fire out was declared at 9:41 a.m.
A total of 500 families were affected by the fire, and 200 houses were damaged in the highly populated area.
Based on initial investigation by the Philippine National Police, the fire started on the second floor of the house of a man only identified as "Manong."
No one died in the fire, but a fireman had difficulty breathing and was given first aid.
The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said it will look for a place where the fire victims can seek temporary shelter.
It added that it will give out tents to the affected residents to ensure they will still observe social distancing.
The BFP is still investigating the cause of the fire.
As of 11 a.m., Road 10 was still clogged with fire trucks, residents and their belongings, as well as delivery trucks on their way to and from the Port Area. —KG, GMA News
