Quezon City gov't reports fewer COVID-19 cases for the first time


The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday reported that the total number of persons who tested positive for the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Quezon City has reported fewer cases. 

Based on information from the DOH, the number of cases is down to 641 from 670 the previous day.

Meanwhile, the total number of confirmed cases with complete addresses in Quezon City is now at 591 while the number of validated cases by the QC Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit and District Health Offices is 580.

The Quezon City government also listed the number of active COVID-19 cases in the city at 487.

There are eight new recoveries, bringing the total to 35 cases.

As of April 9, 2020, there are eight new deaths reported, bringing the total to 58 cases.

The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office together with Quezon City Fire Department has disinfected 637 locations in all 142 barangays.

Community-base testing will also start next week as part of efforts to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases in the city. A total of 1,800 initial tests kits will come from the Department of Health and Philippine Red Cross.

At least an initial 1,300 tests will be done in areas that have the highest number of PUIs.

The local government has started distributing additional financial support worth 2000.00 each to tricycle drivers and operators, jeepney drivers, pedicab drivers, market vendors, solo parents and persons with disabilities.

On Thursday, members of some tricycle operators and drivers associations (TODA) received the monetary assistance.

There are temporary quarantine facilities set up by the local government.

The HOPE 1 facility has reached its full capacity with 23 COVID-19 positive patients and 17 persons under investigation while the HOPE 2 facility still has 122 beds available for use of COVID-19 patients and persons under investigation. There are 13 COVID-19 positive patients and 10 PUIs are currently housed in HOPE 2. -- BAP, GMA News
