As some Manila residents receive cash aid, others continue to wait

Some residents in Tondo, Manila on Monday started receiving financial assistance under the government's social amelioration program designed to mitigate the effects of the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine, according to Chino Gaston's report on "24 Oras."

One of the first ones to receive their aid were residents of Barangay 50 in Tondo, who received up to P8,000 in cash.

"Malaking bagay po kasi walang nakakapaghanap buhay eh. Wala pong pagkukuhanan ng pang araw-araw na gastos," one of the residents said.

Meanwhile, some families have yet to receive their cash assistance despite having submitted their names to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

"Nakalista naman kami eh pero wala naman silang mapaliwanag," a tricycle driver said.

The DSWD advised the residents not to worry because the list came from the Department of Finance and the local government.

Some of those who have not yet received their aid may get it in the coming days, the DSWD added.

"‘Wag po mabahala ‘yong wala sa listahan dahil kukunin po namin. It will be validated as soon as possible para sila naman po ang mabigyan next,” a DSWD official said.

Under the DSWD'a social amelioration program, assistance would be given to low-income households, including senior citizens, persons with a disability, single parents, overseas Filipinos in distress, and pregnant mothers. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/DVM, GMA news
