Balintawak market open with disinfection measures in place

The Balintawak public market is open but there are strict hygiene measures in place amid the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), according to a report by Tina Panganiban-Perez for GMA News' Saksi on Friday.

At the entrance, a security guard is tasked to spray sanitizer on the hands of all those who enter the facility.

The sidewalk and the street around the market are regularly sprayed with disinfectant. But there are some customers who forget to wear their masks when they enter the market.

One client said she forgot to bring her mask and will just keep a one-meter distance from the people she meets and make sure she doesn't stay longer than necessary.

But there are far less customers and shorter time to sell at the market as a curfew and the guidelines of the enhanced community quarantine are implemented by the local government.

The prices of some items are as follows:

  • Pigue/Kasim/Pork chop - P180 per kilo
  • Liempo - P220 per kilo
  • Chicken - P130 per kilo
  • Chicken, choice cuts - P140 per kilo

Fruits and vegetables though are pricey at the Balintawak market.

  • Calamansi - P120 per kilo (before, P40 per kilo)
  • Luya - P220 per kilo (before, P100 per kilo)
  • Bawang - P140 per kilo
  • Sibuyas (pula) - P60 per kilo
  • Sibuyas (puti) - P45 per kilo
  • Kamatis - P35 per kilo
  • Tulingan - P90 to P180 (before, P140 to P200)
