San Juan confirms 4 more COVID-19 cases

The San Juan City Government confirmed on Sunday night that the number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in their city had risen to 15 after four new infections were recorded earlier in the day.

The four new cases were a 33-year-old male from Barangay West Crame, a 59-year-old male from Barangay Rivera, another 59-year-old male from Barangay Maytunas, and a 50-year-old male from Barangay Salapan.

The local government said all four cases were in stable condition.

The latest data from the Department of Health also showed that 15 of the 140 COVID-19 cases in the country as of Sunday were from San Juan.

Meanwhile, the San Juan City Council declared a state of calamity over San Juan through Ordinance No. 16, which would allow Mayor Francis Zamora to utilize the Quick Response Fund.

Zamora said mall operators had agreed to temporarily suspend their operations until further notice, pursuant to Ordinance No. 18 unanimously approved by the City Council earlier on Sunday.

The ordinance exempts groceries, supermarkets, pharmacies, medical supplies and services stalls, and restaurants that offer home delivery services.

The City Council also passed Ordinance No. 19 limiting the number of basic commodities that consumers were allowed to purchase per day during the state of calamity. — Julia Mari Ornedo/DVM, GMA News
