Mayor Isko declares Manila's ‘last lung’ Arroceros Park a permanent forest park

The Manila City government has declared the Arroceros Forest Park in Ermita, regarded as the city's "last lung," a permanent forest park in a bid to make the country’s capital a “green city.”

Mayor Isko Moreno announced on Tuesday that he has signed Ordinance No. 8607 officially declaring the park along Arroceros Street as a permanent forest park.

"Let’s turn Manila into a green city," he said.

After winning the mayoral election in 2019, Moreno vowed to preserve and improve recreational areas like zoos and parks in Manila City after some properties were rumored to be for sale.

In July last year, the mayor also announced plans to expand the park, dubbed as “Manila’s last lung.” — Julia Mari Ornedo/MDM, GMA News
