Monumento-Balintawak traffic builds up due to Skyway 3 construction
Even with Tuesday a holiday due to the EDSA People Power anniversary, traffic built up in the Monumento-Balintawak area due to the Skyway Stage 3 construction, according to Chino Gaston's report on GMA News TV’s Balitanghali on Tuesday.
On Monday, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced lane closures and traffic adjustments to give way to the construction of a vertical bridge support under the EDSA bridge.
It is expected to be finished in 20 days.
Two southbound lanes of EDSA Balintawak flyover were closed. Due to this, a traffic bottleneck built up along Monumento and A. Bonifacio.
The closed lanes were obstructed by barriers, cranes, and scaffoldings.
According to jeepney drivers, their travel time from Monumento to Balintawak consumed 30 minutes.
In its statement, the MMDA said a one-lane closure will be implemented on EDSA Balintawak going to the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).
Motorists with light vehicles going to NLEX and Monumento were advised to take the Balintawak Interchange Ramp going to Cubao and make a U-turn after Cloverleaf Market.
Two lanes on the EDSA Bridge going to Cubao will also be closed for the construction of an interconnection flat form tower, the MMDA said.
Due to this, light vehicles coming from Monumento via EDSA before reaching Balintawak should turn right to A. De Jesus Street and then left to C3. — Joviland Rita/BM, GMA News
