No waste where foreigner allegedly defecated, says Intramuros admin
There was no human waste seen in the area in Intramuros where a foreigner was earlier photographed seemingly defecating into a receptacle, the authorities at the historic site said on Sunday.
In the photo, the man's naked backside could clearly be seen as he sat on or crouched over the pot , his shorts down to his knees, in Baluarte de Dilao.
The photo made the rounds on social media, prompting Manila Mayor Isko Moreno to call for a search for the man.
However, Intramuros Administration said, their team found no waste. In a 24 Oras Weekend report by Victoria Tulad, it added that it did not receive a verified report and even speculated that the person who took the photo may have been trying to stir up anti-Chinese sentiment.
"No verified report. We are trying to get in touch with the one who posted this but he is not responding. We are concerned that instead of calling attention of the guard who is posted there if true, the one who posted it is using this for anti-Chinese sentiment. We checked the site, it's clean and no waste on the site," the Intramuros Administration told GMA News.
“After sifting through the location, the personnel deployed reported that there is no waste in the area, contrary to what is insinuated in the photo,” it added in a statement on Facebook.
“With this, we reiterate our call for everyone to be mindful of our environment and to practice responsible tourism, especially in our heritage sites.”
The person who took the photo recounted what he saw.
“Naisip po namin na kung lalaki siya and naka-drop ‘yung pants niya… siyempre dumudumi siya doon sa may ano, sa may paso po,” Dos Alvarado said.
“After po no’n, nag-angat lang po siya ng pants then bumalik po do’n kasama ‘yung family niya po ata or friends,” he added.
Alvarado said the foreigner was immediately approached by one of the security guards in the area, but they no longer found out what happened next.
“Parang wala pong nangyari, parang normal lang. Tuloy lang po ‘yung ikot nila dito sa Intramuros,” he said.
Super Radyo dzBB reporter Luisito Santos earlier reported on Sunday that the receptacle in question had been removed.
