For the first time, after many years, the thanksgiving procession conducted in honor of the Black Nazarene lasted for only one hour and 30 minutes, Jonathan Andal reported on Unang Balita.
The police reported that the number of devotees who attended the procession was between 70,000 and 80,000.
There were no reported pushing and shoving among devotees who joined the procession that started a few minutes before midnight.
The image of the Nazareno was placed on a carosa instead of just the andas or just the stand.
The devotees were also not allowed to climb the carosa and wipe the image with cloth or handkerchief.
As part of crowd control, the entire procession route was also lined with police officers.
A new policy is also in place. The devotees are not allowed to join break through the police cordon to join the procession.
As a result, the activity that started a few minutes before midnight and was finished after only an hour and thirty minutes.
This year's thanksgiving procession could be the most orderly and fastest.
"Last year, this time provision is 10 hours and 20 minutes so ngayon at least tuwa namin, natapos agad yung procession peacefully, solemn and very orderly," said NCRPO Chief Brig. General Debold Sinas.
