Two children dead in Caloocan fire
Two children died after a fire engulfed their home in Tupda Village, Barangay 8, Caloocan City before dawn on Sunday, according to a report by Ralph Obina on Dobol B sa News TV aired on GMA News TV.
Caloocan City Fire Marshal Stephen Requina said one of the fatalities was brought to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. She was later identified as Jilian Nardeya, 8.
Authorities found the charred body of her sibling Mikmik Nardeya, 6, at the site.
Meanwhile, two other children, Kian, 10, and Rodolfo, 5, were in critical condition due to severe burns.
According to Dr. Dax Anthony Suva, surgeon at the Caloocan City Medical Center, Kian had burns in 83% of his body while Rodolfo had burns on 68% of his body.
They will be brought to another hospital for further treatment, the doctor said.
The fire broke out at the family home past 3 a.m. and reached the second alarm before it was put out at 4:39 a.m.
Maymay Mano, mother of the children, said she left before dawn with her grandchild to get some breakfast. She left her four children and was surprised to come home to the tragedy.
A resident, Jackylin Magat, said she was watering her plants when she noticed the fire. She then shouted for help.
Magat said the Mano house had no electricity and used only candles for lighting.
No other house was damaged by the fire.
Meanwhile, one resident, Fulgencio Rodriguez, got electrocuted by a live wire during the incident. He was brought to the Caloocan City Medical Center.
Authorities pegged the damage at P150,000.
The Bureau of Fire Protection is conducting mopping up operations as of posting time.
They are also still determining the cause of the fire. —KG, GMA News
