Police officer dies of heart attack while training despite passing medical tests

A police officer has died of a heart attack during police training at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

According to Mark Salazar's report by on GMA News TV's Balitanghali Weekend on Saturday, Police Staff Sergeant Victorino Oreiro Jr. collapsed while he was jogging around camp past 5 a.m.

Officials from the Regional Learning and Doctrine Development Division said Oreiro was just two weeks into a leadership training for his promotion when the incident happened.

Authorities said Oreiro had passed the medical examination, electrocardiography (ECG) test, and other tests required before being allowed to take the leadership course.

However, according to the Regional Health Service of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), not all heart conditions can be detected through an ECG scan.

Oreiro's heart attack may have been caused by other factors such as a lack of sleep and stress, the health service added.

The family of Oreiro refused to give a comment to the media. — Joahna Lei Casilao/MDM, GMA News
