Antipolo bishop warns public vs. fake priests soliciting money
Antipolo Bishop Francisco de Leon has warned parishioners against people posing as priests to scam mass attendees for money, allegedly for good causes, according to a report by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
“Fraud priests have been causing problems and difficulties in some parishes in our diocese,” De Leon said in a circular addressed to the clergy.
“We are not allowing them to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in our diocese and we are not giving them faculties in our diocese,” he added.
Members of the clergy were ordered by the bishop to warn mass attendees of unlicensed men exercising priestly duties in the diocese.
“Please report to our Chancery any fake priest celebrating Masses or house blessings, or asking [for] money or gift cards,” De Leon said. —Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
