Cubao diocese formally opens cause for beatification of Darwin Ramos
The Diocese of Cubao on Wednesday formally opened the cause for the beatification and canonization of 17-year-old Darwin Ramos who was declared by the Vatican as a "Servant of God."
"With this, I declare the opening of the diocesan inquiry on the life, virtues, and reputation of holiness of the Servant of God Darwin Ramos in accordance with the laws of the church," Bishop Honesto Ongtiongco said during solemn rites held at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral of Cubao.
The postulator, French Dominican Fr. Thomas de Gabory, formally submitted to the bishop the document detailing the life of Darwin Ramos, the witnesses to be interviewed, the testimonies, and the formal petition to introduce the cause.
The diocesan tribunal and historical commission were constituted as part of the process.
Ramos spent his childhood in the slums of Pasay City. He was later diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Despite his condition, he got himself involved in work helping street children. He was baptized in 2006 and received his first communion and the sacrament of confirmation the following year.
Ramos’ physical condition deteriorated but he developed a deep personal relationship with Christ. He died on September 23, 2012.
