NKTI uses gym to house rising number of leptospirosis patients
The National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) in Quezon City has converted its gym into a hospital ward over the weekend to accommodate the rising number of leptospirosis patients admitted to its care.
According to James Agustin's report on GMA News TV's Balitanghali, the NKTI was tending to 27 leptospirosis patients as of Tuesday.
Six were in critical condition while three were being monitored in the intensive care unit.
The hospital said a total of 98 people have been admitted for leptospirosis from January 1 until August 19 this year.
Fifteen have died due to the disease.
As the NKTI saw the highest number of leptospirosis cases in August, the hospital is calling on the public to help the victims by donating to its blood bank which is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. —Margaret Claire Layug/KG, GMA News
