Andres Bonifacio's great granddaughter thanks Isko for monument cleanup

The great granddaughter of hero Andres Bonifacio met Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso on Tuesday to thank him personally for the cleanup of the revolutionary's monument beside the city hall.

Susan Meyer told GMA News she used to cry whenever she would pass by the neglected monument of her great grandfather.

Now she is happy to see that Moreno had the monument cleaned of garbage.

Meyer, who was born and raised in Onyx in Manila, posed for a photo with Moreno in front of the Bonifacio monument together with Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Cavite Mayor Nelia Angeles and Starstruck hopeful Lexi Gonzales after the flag raising ceremony.

After he won the mayoralty post, Moreno issued a directive on July 8 to clear the Andres Bonifacio Monument of squatters and vendors.

He then visited the area a couple of days later to inspect it and was dismayed to find the monument smelly and dirty. Moreno also stepped on poop while inspecting the area.

Flushing operations were then conducted and the homeless vacated the area.

In a surprise inspection on July 14, Moreno found the area clean and the foul smell gone.

The site has since become the venue for the city hall's flag raising ceremony.

Courtesy call

About his other guests, Moreno said Angeles asked permission to join the flag raising ceremony on Tuesday.

She also paid a courtesy call on Moreno.

Angeles, a first termer, had been visiting mayors in various cities and municipalities, hoping to learn how to better govern, as well as to ask for support for her municipality. Moreno promised Angeles medical support for her constituents.

Gonzales, on the other hand, hopes to get tips from Moreno on how to improve her performance. The mayor was a former actor and was once part of GMA’s That’s Entertainment show.
