Get to know Vico Sotto's roots in the political arena

Pasig City mayor-elect Vico Sotto who ended the 27-year rule of the Eusebios in the city, traces his roots from generations of politicians, according to an episode of GMA News TV's Investigative Documentaries.

In an episode last week, Vico's family tree in Philippine politics was dissected.

His great grandfather Filemon Sotto served as a councilor and municipal vice president of then Cebu town. He also became the congressman of Cebu's 3rd District from 1907 to 1916 and joined the Senate from 1916 to 1922.

Filemon's brother Vicente Sotto was Cebu town's councilor in 1902. He became the mayor in 1907. He later became a part of the Congress.

Vicente "Tito" Sotto III, the grandson of the first Vicente, serves as the incumbent Senate President of the 17th Congress. He was a former vice mayor of Quezon City from 1988 to 1992. His first victory as a senator was in 1992.

Tito Sotto's brother Valmar "Val" Sotto became the councilor of Parañaque's 2nd District from 2004 to 2013.

Some cousins of Vico Sotto were also politicians, including incumbent Parañaque councilor Viktor Eriko "Wahoo" Sotto, Quezon City vice mayor-elect Gian Sotto, and Quezon City's 3rd District Councilor Diorella "Lala" Sotto.

Vico Sotto, however, assured that he will not establish a political dynasty in Pasig.

"Ako lang naman ang Sotto sa Pasig... Definitely hangga't ako ang nakaupo dito sa Pasig wala akong ibang immediate family or malalapit na kamag-anak na tatakbo dito. Hindi ako papayag," he said.

Pasig is considered as one of the richest cities in the country, according to the Commission on Audit. It has a P1.5  billion Internal Revenue Allotment for 2019.

The young blood vowed to focus on improving healthcare, housing, and education services in the city by launching inclusive and transparent governance and leading a strong campaign against corruption.

"It will be an uphill climb pero basta't magtutulungan ang maraming Pasigeño, malayo ang mararating namin," Vico said. —Dona Magsino/LDF, GMA News
