MMDA: Provincial bus ban on EDSA to undergo public consultation

The proposed provincial bus ban on EDSA will undergo public consultation after its unsuccessful dry run recently, according to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

MMDA spokesperson, Assistant Secretary Celine Pialago said that the consultation that they previously held for the provincial bus ban in EDSA only involved bus operators.

“Magkakaroon po tayo ng public consultation. 'Yung naging consultation natin ay more of the bus operators,” Pialago said in her interview on GMA News’ Unang Balita on Wednesday.

Banning all provincial buses on EDSA will help ease the traffic problems in the thoroughfare, according to the MMDA.

Last Monday, MMDA EDSA traffic chief Bong Nebrija faced lawmakers to address several concerns regarding the provincial bus ban proposal.

Pialago said that they will consider all the concerns and suggestions raised during the MMDA’s meeting with the House Committee on Transportation.

“Kung hindi feasible at hindi accessible sa mga commuters natin ay puwede nating i-move nang i-move hanggang sa makuha natin ang tamang timpla ng polisiya,” Pialago said.

The provincial bus ban on EDSA was set to implement in June, but Pialago said it can be moved again until they come up with policy that is more agreeable with bus operations and commuters. —Joviland/LBG, GMA News
