According to Police Brigadier General Roberto Fajardo, director of the Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG), a team was dispatched Thursday night after two carnapping incidents were reported in Taguig and in Manila.
"Ang HPG po ay nag-patrol sa area at tinignan yung mga possible na daanan at yun nga, nai-spotan itong [sasakyan]," he said.
"Nung pinapara, hindi tumigil. At nagpaputok pa kaya, eto, nag-result sa encounter."
Although one of the slain suspects was wearing a T-shirt that policemen usually wear, Fajardo said the suspect is not a member of the PNP.
"Hindi po ito member ng PNP. Nakasuot lang ng pulis," he said.
The report said police uniforms were recovered from the suspects' vehicle.
SOCO operatives were still on the scene of the encounter as of posting time. —KBK, GMA News
