Man falls to his death down an elevator shaft he mistook for CR
An architect fell to his death on Saturday night when he mistook an elevator shaft for a Comfort Room in Cubao, Quezon City.
GMA News identified the victim as Architect Michael Alfonso, 37.
An initial investigation showed there were no safety warning signs in the area and the door looked like an ordinary door to a CR.
Friends said Alfonso came from a gym and hurriedly searched for a comfort room in the building where the incident happened.
At about 9 p.m., rushing Alfonso mistakenly opened the door, entered and fell through the elevator shaft from the Second Floor down to the basement and onto the top of the elevator box, the report said.
He was extricated from the elevator at about 10:40 p.m., and was rushed to a hospital, but did not make it.
Members of Alfonso's family declined to face media camera as they were still "in a state of shock."
A report from the Cubao Police Station indicated that Alfonso was with his friend Gerald Mondina, 30, on the 3rd Floor of the building where the gym was located.
Mondina said he saw Alfonso open the door of the elevator.
Attending physician Franz Arvin Adarlo, MD, declared Alfonso dead at about 11:50 p.m. of March 2, 2019.
Police are investigating the incident. —with Llanesca Panti/LBG, GMA News
