DOTr releases list of liquids allowed on MRT
The Department of Transportation has released the list of liquids that may be allowed into the MRT-3.
In a statement, the DOTr said that "bottled drinks, water and any liquid substance" would not be allowed on the trains as they could be mixed with other substances to form a liquid bomb.
The additional security measure was recommended by the Philippine National Police (PNP) after the deadly bomb attack on the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral in Jolo that killed at least 23 people last week.
Nevertheless, DOTr-MRT-3 said the following liquids may be permitted on the trains upon validation and approval from security personnel:
- Baby formula / breast milk in bottles, if the passenger is travelling with a baby or small child;
- Drinking water to be used by the baby or small child;
- All prescription and over-the-counter medications;
- Liquids including water, juice or liquid nutrition or gels for passenger with a disability or life condition;
- Life-support and life-sustaining liquids such as bone marrow, blood products, and transplant organs;
- Items used to augment the body and for medical and cosmetics reasons such as mastectomy products, prosthetics breast, bras or shells containing gels, saline solution, or other liquids; and
- Gels or frozen liquids needed to cool disability or medical-related items used by persons with disabilities or medical conditions.
The DOTr said that items held by security personnel in the past few days, including items which were previously prohibited, would be returned to you "upon proper verification through the presentation of appropriate identification" to the station supervisor.
"The DOTr MRT-3 is seeking a deeper understanding from the riding public as the agency is strictly implementing a more effective security regulation," the statement read.
