'Mt. Kamuning' footbridge reopened, now with 'landing areas'

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has reopened the controversial footbridge in Quezon City that has earlier been dubbed as "Mt. Kamuning" due to its height.

Unlike before, the footbridge now has "landing areas" where pedestrians can rest while climbing the steps, according to Bam Alegre's report on Unang Balita on Tuesday.

A pedestrian interviewed in the report described her experience climbing the footbridge as "nakakalula" and "masakit sa binti."

The MMDA closed the footbridge — which cost P10 million to build and located at Scout Borromeo-EDSA — late last year for redesigning after its design drew flak from the public.

Earlier reports said the footbridge is nine meters (30 feet) high. For a pedestrian on the open-air structure, it will be equivalent to being on the third floor of a building.

Below it are the power lines and tracks of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3). —KBK, GMA News
