New MMDA EDSA traffic manager promises to bring back discipline on the road

Newly appointed Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) EDSA traffic manager Bong Nebrija vowed to bring back discipline among motorists using the major thoroughfare.

To do this, he called on the support of motorists and commuters, according to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita on Tuesday.

Nebrija, head of the MMDA Task Force for Special Operations, took over the post of outgoing chief traffic inspector Rodolfo Calpito who is retiring this month.

The MMDA said it is confident Nebrija will be able to address the EDSA traffic problem. 

Traffic on EDSA has slowed down from 19.37 kph to 16.14 kph this November, the MMDA said on Monday.

The increase in the volume of vehicles is 20 percent for the whole Metro Manila.

MMDA spokesperson and Assistant Secretary Celine Pialago said the increase in vehicle volume may be attributed to new vehicles, shoppers from nearby provinces such as Cavite and Laguna, and those participating in Christmas activities such parties and light shows. —KG, GMA News
