Militant groups hold protest vs. Xi Jinping’s visit

As Chinese President Xi Jinping touched down on Philippine soil Tuesday noon, militant groups held protest in front of the building of the Chinese consulate in Makati City.

An estimated 300 protesters from different militant groups gathered to denounce the visit of Xi Jinping in the country, according to a report on GMA News TV's Balitanghali.

Protesters marched along Gil Puyat Avenue heading to the building of the Chinese consulate, where 50 policemen barricaded the building.

Motorists are not affected by the protest which only occupied one lane of Gil Puyat Avenue, according to a report of Super Radyo dzBB's Sam Nielsen.

Renato Reyes of Bayan said the country should impose its rights on the West Philippine Sea after winning in permanent court of arbitration against China.

He said that the territory should not be treated as collateral for the loans that China promised to the country.

Meanwhile, 6,400 police personnel were deployed in the Manila area. Police were ordered not to allow protests near the areas of the visiting Chinese president.
