DPWH opens Laguna Lake Highway to motorists
The Department of Public of Works and Highways (DPWH) opened to motorists the P1.28-billion Laguna Lake Highway in Taguig City.
The 4-lane highway connected the eastern part of Metro Manila and the towns of Rizal Province. It was opened to provide an alternative route to motorists ahead of the Christmas rush, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said Thursday.
“This toll-free road will be able to cut travel time from Bicutan to Taytay and vice versa from an hour to just 30 minutes or less,” Villar said.
Formerly called C-6, the 6.94-km Laguna Lake Highway allows motorists to avoid traffic along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) and Circumferential Road 5 (C-5).
“This is the first national expressway with bicycle lanes. The improved highway will ensure safety of motorists, bikers, pedestrians, as well as protection of residents from the backflow of lake water,” Villar said.
The construction of Laguna Lake Highway was implemented by DPWH National Capital Region and supervised by Regional Director B. Melvin Navarro.
The opening of Laguna Lake Highway was also attended by Budget and Management Secretary Benjamin Diokno and BCDA President and CEO Vivencio Dizon, as well as Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, former DFA Secretary Allan Peter Cayetano, Taguig City Vice-Mayor Ricardo Cruz, Taguig City–Pateros 1st District Rep. Pia Cayetano, and Barangay Lower Bicutan Chairman Roel Pacayra. —Ted Cordero/VDS, GMA News
