Provincial bus groups says fare matrix confusing, prone to abuse
Provincial bus operators have complained about the new fare matrix of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTRFB) that computes fares based on the kilometer markers.
The Provincial Bus Operators Association of the Philippines (PBOAP) said the new matrix was confusing and prone to abuse, according to a report by Saleema Refran in "Balitanghali" on Friday.
The previous matrix indicated the destination and the distance of travel.
"'Yung pasahero 'pag hindi niya alam 'yung lugar nu'ng kaniyang binabayaran, hindi niya alam kung ang ibinayad niya ay sobra doon sa dapat na bayaran," said Alex Yague, executive director, PBOAP.
The PBOAP also want the LTFRB to address the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Department Order 2018-25 that sets the route coverage for the Greater Manila Area and nearby provinces.
The order amends the provincial buses' franchises for them to be converted to city buses to allow them to provide service to those going to Manila everyday for work.
The group said the order will cause an increase in bus fares.
The LTFRB is set to hold a dialogue with the bus operators. — Jamil Santos/ LDF, GMA News
