Flood victims still at evacuation centers in Marikina; relief goods given

More than 5,000 residents affected by the flooding during the weekend remained at evacuation centers in Marikina City on Monday morning, according to tweets by Super Radyo dzBB's Jonathan Andal.

Two hundred families or 800 individuals are still at Bulelak Covered Court in Barangay Malanday.

Outside the evacuation center, residents were seen going through their muddied belongings and fixing their houses.

Many of the residents were not able to save any of their belongings when floodwaters rushed in over the weekend as the Marikina River swelled due to torrential rains.

A total of 5,517 evacuees are staying at Malanday Elementary School. The school holds the largest number of evacuees.

Affected residents lined up early at Malanday Elementary School on Monday to receive relief goods from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Among the relief goods given to 5,500 evacuees at Malanday Elementary School were six kilos of rice, four cans of sardines, four cans of corned beef, six sachets of 3-in-1 coffee.

Marikina Mayor Marci Teodoro asked evacuees to maintain order before the relief goods were given.

Distribution of relief goods is ongoing as of posting time.
