Commuters stranded after LRT1 ops disrupted

Commuters were left stranded and competed for passenger vehicles after the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT1) experienced technical problems Saturday morning.

In a photo taken by YouScooper Roderic Mallo around the Metropoint Mall in Pasay City at around 8:30 a.m., commuters could be seen occupying two lanes at the EDSA-Taft intersection.

Commuters occupy two lanes of EDSA-Taft as they wait for rides after the Light Rail Transit-1 limited its operations to only between UN Avenue and Roosevelt Stations on Saturday, July 21, 2018. Management says the problem was due to a damaged electrical wire near the Libertad Station. YouScoop / Roderic Mallo

The LRT-1 earlier announced that it shut down its power at the south line and limited its operations to only between the Central and Roosevelt Stations in order for technicians to fix an electrical wire near the Libertad Station.

In its 10:00 a.m. update, the LRT-1 management said it is limiting operations to between UN Avenue and Roosevelt stations.

It said in its 11 a.m. update that the engineering team is already investigating the problem.

The LRT1 operations were already normal from Roosevelt Station to Vito Cruz Station at 12:55 p.m.

Management said full operations will be restored as soon as the repair has been cleared for safety.

The problem was traced to an electrical cable which had a line to ground fault.

The operations from Baclaran to Roosevelt stations were fully restored at 2:59 p.m.
