I-ACT launches operation vs. tricycles along Katipunan
The government's Interagency Council for Traffic (I-ACT) has launched operation against tricycles using national roads, GMA News' Saleema Refran reported on Unang Balita on Tuesday.
Tuesday's operation was conducted along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City where several tricycle drivers were cited for violations.
Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) board member Aileen Lizada said tricycles are not allowed to use national roads and highways due to safety issues.
She cited that tricycles are usually overloaded and used as services for students.
Tricycles drivers who were apprehended on Tuesday said the local government has allowed them to use Katipunan, but according to I-ACT executive director Manny Gonzales, national laws will prevail over local permits.
Lizada said they are open to a dialogue with tricycle operators and drivers regarding roads that they can use. —KBK, GMA News
