QC cops get new guns, cars from city hall

The Quezon City Police District on Thursday received brand new patrol cars and assault rifles from its city government, boosting police units' capability to respond quickly to calls for law enforcement and police service.

Philippine National Police chief Director General Oscar Albayalde, National Capital Region Police Office director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar and Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista led the turnover ceremony of the 25 brand new Toyota Vios patrol cars and 100 Galil assault rifles at the QCPD headquarters in Camp Karingal, Quezon City.

Albayalde during his speech said that the additional law enforcement resources will "further improve the logistical capabilities of the local police force in patrolling the communities and ensuring that the peace and order are maintained in their respective area of responsibility."

He also reminded police personnel of the QCPD to perform their duties with integrity and respect.

"I expect all of you to further intensify your anti-crime strategies. We will not stop until our fellow countrymen feel safe and secured in roaming the streets of the Metro. Thus, I urge you to give your best shots in performing our sworn mandate," Albayalde said.

QCPD director Chief Superintendent Joselito Esquivel Jr. said the 25 new mobile patrol vehicles will be distributed to the different offices and units at the QCPD headquarters as well as police stations in La Loma, Novaliches, Fairview and Batasan.

The 12 police stations under the QCPD will get three assault rifles each while the rest will be distributed to other units and offices of QCPD.

Last month, the city government also turned over 1,250 semi-automatic pistols to the QCPD which were issued to newly downloaded policemen. It also gave three Montero SUVs for the official use of the Office of the chief PNP, NCRPO director and QCPD director. —NB, GMA News
