‘Chop-chop’ victim cremated as family seeks justice
Heidi Estrera, the woman who was killed and dismembered by her husband allegedly in a fit of rage in Quezon City last Sunday, was cremated at La Loma Crematory in Caloocan City on Wednesday.
Relatives patiently waited for her ashes to be brought out before it was placed inside an urn.
Heidi’s mother and sister were not present during the cremation. Instead, they chose to wait for her ashes to be brought to Iloilo where many relatives wish to mourn her death.
Heidi’s only brother, Tonton Espinosa, was quietly seated in one corner during the cremation process. He was reluctant to view his sister's remains and only mustered enough courage to see her after the urn was brought out of the crematorium.
Tears rolled down as soon as he caught sight of what remained of Heidi.
Tonton said he was very close to his eldest sibling who was always ready to help him.
"'Yun kapatid ko po, ma'm, mahal na mahal ko po 'yun. Wala akong masabi sa kanya," he said.
The suspect, Orlando Estrera, is already in police custody and currently detained at the Quezon City Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit in Camp Karingal. The Quezon City Prosecutor's Office has recommended no bail for him.
Tonton is hoping justice will be served to his sister.
"Buhay ang kinuha niya, ma'm, dapat buhay kapalit," he said. "Sa akin sana pagdusahan niya ginawa niya. Alam niya 'yan." —KBK, GMA News
