UST Alumni president resigns

University of Santo Tomas Alumni Association Inc. President Henry Tenedero has resigned from his post following the controversy over the award given to Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson.

In a statement on Tuesday night, Tenedero "humbly takes full responsibility on what has happened."

The Alumni Association also apologized to UST Rector Fr. Herminio Dagohoy, O.P., the administration of the university, alumni, students and the general public "for any reactions that may have resulted from the conferment of the recognitionsin the Thomasian Alumni in Government Service."

Some UST alumni and students have expressed strong condemnation over the awarding of Uson as it supposedly insulted the outstanding alumni honor by recognizing one who did not embody "the ideals of a real Thomasian."

Tenedero had said the association chose its awardees on two main criteria: a UST graduate and involved in government service.

In the same statement, the Alumni Association stressed that they would not revoke the award given to Uson.

"The USTAAI stands firm with its decision not to rescind the recognition already conferred," the association said.

Tenedero had admitted that he was hurt with the bashing he and the Alumni Association receive from the public.

Meanwhile, the association vowed to "continuously serve and support all activities of the university and respective alumni groups representing various faculties or colleges." — BAP, GMA News
