LRT train goes from Vito Cruz to Quirino with one door open
A Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) train traveled from Vito Cruz to Quirino with one of its doors wide open on Monday night.
According to Jun Veneracion's report on "24 Oras", no injuries were reported but incident alarmed the few passengers who were on board.
Citing findings from their investigation, the LRT-1 management said the door malfunctioned after a passenger supposedly forced it to open when the train coming from the Baclaran station stopped at the Vito Cruz station.
"Pinuwersa nga noong pasahero, so na-disturb 'yung sensor, hindi na-detect doon sa traction. So umandar 'yung tren na naka-bukas 'yung pinto, " LRT-1 operations director Engineer Rodrigo Bolario.
The said passenger was reportedly swift in exiting the train at the next station.
"Hindi nga namin nakita 'yung tao, pero kung nakita namin 'yung tao, dadalhin talaga namin sa legal for investigation," Bolario added.
The official admitted that some of the aged LRT-1 units have displayed "abnormalities" such as malfunctioning doors and brake systems, as well as the inconsistent speed.
Although the management considered these as "minor problems," the line announced that it will be pulling three of their 2nd generation train units out of their daily operations starting January 16 next year, adding that the rehabilitation could take all year long.
A similar incident took place last March 2016 wherein the door of a running train was open, with nothing to keep the passengers from injury should they fall out of the unit.
Commuters interviewed on the report expressed concern for their safety when using the line to travel. —NB, GMA News
