Newborn baby found in Caloocan trash
A newborn baby boy still attached to his umbilical cord was found wrapped in plastic inside a trash can in Caloocan City early Monday morning, GMA News' Cedric Castillo reported on 24 Oras.
The baby was taken to the Caloocan City Medical Center by Sean Raven Casimsiman, who first thought the baby was a kitten when he passed by the trash can on 2nd Avenue corner Father Roxas Street.
No complications were found on the baby, described as two kilos heavy with reddish skin and a head full of hair.
"Baby Boy X" is currently under the care of the hospital's emergency unit.
Social worker Carina Serafica said the baby was saved from possible infections from contact with garbage as he was only a few hours old.
"Kakalabas pa lang sa womb ng mother siguro kaya may dugo-dugo pa... Ang basura, masyadong toxic 'yan, sa mga germs, kaya ma-adopt ng baby 'yun since bagong panganak siya," Serafica said.
The baby will be turned over to Caloocan City's Social Welfare Department (CSWD) as soon as the hospital submits the necessary documents to the local government.
Serafica said the CSWD will decide where to place the baby if no one adopts him or if his parents are not found. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
