DOE launches probe into Mandaluyong gas station fire
The Department of Energy (DOE) has started an investigation into the fire that hit a gasoline station in Mandaluyong City on Friday afternoon.
The DOE said that it immediately sent a technical team to the Petron gasoline station along Shaw Boulevard in Barangay Wack-Wack after reports of the fire incident.
It said that based on initial findings and to ensure the protection of the public, the team had recommended the revocation of the gasoline station's certificate of compliance (COC).
"The revocation of the COC results to the non-operation of the retail outlet until it fully complies to DOE's Retail Rules," the DOE said.
Three people were injured in the incident.
Aside from the injuries, police said a motorcycle was totally burned and a private car was partially burned.
Initial reports said the fire at the gasoline station broke out after a backhoe at a nearby construction site hit a "condemned" LPG tank.
The DOE said its team has yet to issue a final report on the incident.
"The DOE will not hesitate to impose sanctions on the violations of safety standards based on the Retail Rules and the Code of Safety Practice," the DOE added. —Margaret Claire Layug/ALG, GMA News
