MMDA lifts number coding scheme for Undas

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is lifting the number coding scheme on Tuesday, October 31, except in Las Piñas City for this year's observance of Undas.

This means motorists can take their cars out regardless of the last digit off their license plates that are usually banned on main roads on particular days of the week.

The number coding scheme is also suspended on Wednesday, November 1, including in Las Piñas.

"Lifted po ang ating number coding ng October 31 to November 1. Antayin lang po natin ang advise for November 2," MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said in an interview on Unang Balita on Monday.

A traffic management group will be assigned to each cemetery to advise motorists if they can bring their vehicles inside, though the stations are not under MMDA supervision.

Major deployment spots include Manila North Cemetery, Manila South Cemetery, San Juan Cemetery, and Marikina Cemetery.

The MMDA said the following roads are closed on October 27 to 31 and November 1 to November 3:

  • Aurora Boulevard from Dimasalang to Rizal Avenue
  • Dimasalang from Boulevard Makiling to Blumentritt
  • P. Guevarra from Cavite to Pampanga

The following roads will be closed on November 1, from 12 midnight until 3 a.m. of November 2:

  • Blumentritt from A. Bonifacio to P. Guevarra
  • Retiro from Dimasalang to Blumentritt Exit
  • Leonor Rivera from Cavite to Aurora

Malacañang has declared October 31 and November 1 special non-working holidays for the purpose of strengthening family ties and to give the public time to prepare for All Saints' Day, as well as promote domestic tourism. —With a report from Rie Takumi/VDS/KG, GMA News
