Raps filed versus teenagers in cat cruelty video
The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) on Wednesday filed a criminal complaint for violation of the Animal Welfare Act against several teenagers after one of them killed a stray cat with a piece of wood in Pasay City.
According to Tina Panganiban-Perez in her report on "24 Oras," PAWS Executive Director Anna Cabrera filed the complaint against the cat's attacker, John Vincent Tenoria, and his companions Avelino Vito, Jr., Welsey Torres, Jomar Estrada and one other unidentified male.
CCTV footage showed that the teenagers were seen having a drinking session in Barangay 66, Zone 8 during the wee hours of Septmember 5 when Tenoria spotted the cat nearby.
Tenoria took a meter-long stick and swung it at the cat's head.
"Since napatay niya 'yung pusa, up to P100,000 ang fine. Puwede rin fine plus imprisonment... Puwedeng from six months up to two years," Cabrera said.
"Ang animal cruelty is a crime, so walang kinalaman kung may may-ari sa pusa or wala," she added.
