Horacio Tomas Castillo III died after undergoing hazing —MPD medico-legal
Freshman University of Santo Tomas law student Horacio Tomas "Atio" Castillo III died after undergoing hazing, the Manila Police District medico-legal doctor said on Monday.
According to a report by Mark Salazar on News To Go, the medico-legal doctor said Castillo died of massive heart attack possibly due to the injuries he suffered.
The medico-legal team from MPD arrived at the morgue at 9 a.m. on Monday and performed an autopsy on Castillo's body.
The doctor briefed the family afterward and confirmed that it was a case of hazing.
The victim's body had hematoma on both arms but had no burn marks.
Horacio Castillo Jr., the victim's father, cried after they were informed of the autopsy results. He asked those responsible to face the consequences for the crime.
In an interview with dzBB earlier on Monday, the victim's mother, Carmina Castillo, said their son informed them he was invited to join a fraternity. He told them the initiation was already over and the welcome event, an overnight drinking session, will be held on Saturday at UST. Horacio never made it home.
His body was found by a concerned citizen at a sidewalk in Tondo on Sunday morning and brought to Chinese General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His parents found about it at around 1 a.m. on Monday.
UST said it is investigating the incident and will issue a statement after the probe is finished. —KG, GMA News
