Why Kulot had a different surname from his parents, brothers
Despite the difference in their surnames, Eduardo and Lina Gabriel said they were the biological parents of Reynaldo "Kulot" De Guzman, the 14-year-old fifth grader who was allegedly found dead in Gapan, Nueva Ecija with almost 30 stab wounds.
According to Saleema Refran's report on "24 Oras", an error in the filing of Kulot's birth certificate led to his having a different surname from those of his parents and even brothers. The midwife mistakenly filled out Kulot's document with his grandmother's surname.
The family was no longer able to correct the error due to financial reasons.
The parents said De Guzman wasn't adopted, adding that he and his brothers all looked alike.
The PNP on Monday said that DNA tests showed a 99.9 percent negative match between samples taken from the cadaver recovered from Nueva Ecija—the one the family is mourning over—and those from Kulot's parents.
Kulot's father Eduardo has called for another round of DNA examination.
The 14-year-old fifth grader Kulot was the last person seen with 19-year-old Carl Angelo Arnaiz who was killed by Caloocan City policemen in an alleged shootout on August 18.
Arnaiz allegedly robbed a taxi before he was accosted by policemen.
His loved ones and the Public Attorney's Office have expressed doubt that Arnaiz shot it out with cops. —Margaret Claire Layug/NB, GMA News
