PNP-IAS consolidating evidence in Carl Angelo slay case

The Philippine National Police-Internal Affairs Service is now consolidating documentary evidence in connection with the death of 19-year-old Carl Angelo Arnaiz.

Senior Supt. Romeo Sta. Ana, head of National Capital Region Police Office-IAS, said the group had already submitted its initial report to lawyer Michael Darwin Bayotas, acting chief of Intelligence and Investigation Division of the PNP-IAS.

"Meron na kaming initial report kay Atty. Bayotas but still consolidating other pertinent documents regarding the case," Sta. Ana said in a text message to GMA News Online.

PNP IAS Inspector General Alfegar Triambulo said the regional office started the probe last Monday.

"N'ung Monday pa nag-start," he said in a separate text message.

Police Officers 1 Jeffrey Perez and Ricky Arquilita, who have been tagged in the death of Arnaiz, have been relieved from post.

In a sworn affidavit, the policemen said on August 18, Arnaiz allegedly held up a taxi driver on C3 Road, took the driver's wallet, hit him with a gun then fled the scene.

The policemen were patrolling the area and saw Arnaiz who was walking. When they accosted Arnaiz, he reportedly opened fire against them, prompting them to fire back. The teenager was killed in the hail of bullets.

The taxi driver and other policemen then arrived. The driver positively identified Arnaiz as the one who held him up.

In another document, police said the driver's wallet containing P450 and the taxi were recovered from the crime scene.

They also said marijuana and shabu were found on Arnaiz's person.

Autopsy conducted by the Northern Police District Crime Laboratory showed that Arnaiz was possibly shot while lying on the ground and there were also indication that he was dragged. —NB, GMA News
