MMDA plans 10,000 palm trees along major roads
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Sunday planted 1,000 palm trees to greet commuters on NAIA Road in Pasay City.
According to Rida Reyes' report on "Balitanghali," the MMDA aims to have 10,000 palm trees planted along major roads.
The Rotary Club of San Lorenzo, who was behind Sunday's tree planting activity, said they wanted to lessen pollution and transform Metro Manila into a "Green Metro."
Roxas Boulevard and roadways in the Alabang area were among MMDA's identified target locations for the added greenery.
Meanwhile, to quell the heavy traffic in the upcoming "-ber" months, the MMDA said it is readying to identify its alternative routes for 2017, also known as "Mabuhay" or "Christmas" lanes.
Reyes added that the traffic authority had yet to complete clearing operations in the said roads.
The MMDA, admittedly too short-handed to monitor all Mabuhay lanes, urged the public to improve road discipline, such as parking only in designated parking areas. — Margaret Claire Layug/BM, GMA News
