Osmeña Highway now open to traffic even as workers remove collapsed Skyway beam

Motorists can now use Osmeña Highway on Wednesday morning after authorities opened the road to traffic following a construction accident Tuesday, according to a report on dzBB by Mao dela Cruz.

Workers were seen on Wednesday using heavy equipment to remove steel bars from the rebar cage for a beam that fell at the Skyway Extension project site on Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue (Buendia Avenue) in Makati City, according to a report on Unang Balita by Vonne Aquino.

The steel bars were cut and loaded onto a truck.

Removal of the steel bars was still ongoing as of noontime, according to a report on Balitanghali by Saleema Refran.

Workers are taking extra caution to ensure nothing falls on the road and on the vehicles passing by.

Five construction workers were injured and two vehicles were damaged when the rebar cage fell, Makati Police said.

DM Consunji, Inc. (DMCI), which handles the Skyway extension project, said their safety and technical personnel are investigating the cause of the accident.

They also apologized to the public for the inconvenience brought about by the incident.

Heavy traffic was reported in the area on Tuesday as Osmeña Highway was closed following the incident.

Both lanes of the South Luzon Expressway were open to traffic on Wednesday, including the southbound service road, according to the Balitanghali report.

The northbound service road, however, remained closed to traffic since heavy equipment used for the construction are occupying it.

No information has been given yet as to when the clearing operations will be finished. —KG, GMA News
