MRT skips Ayala Station due to thick smoke

Trains of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) skipped the Ayala Avenue Station in Makati City on Monday afternoon due to thick smoke at the station's unpaid area.

A service report status in the MRT-3's website said the incident happened around 1:55 p.m. in the station's northbound lane.

The incident received a Category 1 status which meant the smoke did not affect the MRT-3 operations.

A video posted on Facebook showed a fast food chain up in smoke near the station's payment area.

Passengers were temporarily prohibited from entering the MRT station. Vendors meanwhile were also told to vacate their stalls.

An update from the Southern Police District said the fire incident occurred around 1:45 p.m. and has been declared fire out by 1:57 p.m.

No one was injured during the incident.

Normal operations resumed at Ayala Avenue Station at about 3 p.m., the MRT-3 said in its official Twitter account.
