NCRPO chief assures heightened security for ASEAN Summit

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Oscar Albayalde on Friday assured that security forces are well prepared for the 30th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit this week.

"Unang-unang mararamdaman na natin 'yung sinasabi na 'stop and go' ng trapiko pagdating ng heads of state at talagang mahigpit na 'yung ating security, lalong-lalo na po doon sa mobility areas nila o doon sa mga hotels kung saan sila naka-check-in," Albayalde said in an interview on Unang Balita.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday said there will be a "stop and go" scheme during the summit, as heavy traffic is expected in parts of Metro Manila near the summit venues in Pasay, Manila, and Makati cities.

Meanwhile, the entire complex of the Cultural Center of the Philippines has been on lockdown since Wednesday as part of the security measures for the ASEAN Summit.

"Since Monday naman po mayroon na tayong contingents diyan, in and out of the hotel plus of course 'yung mga CDM (Civil Disturbance Management) contingents natin sa lahat ng mga hotels kung saan naka-check in 'yung ating mga delegates. And of course ngayon, 'yung lockdown since three days ago pa po 'yun. So mahigpit na po nating babantayan 'yung pagsasara doon sa may CCP Complex," he said.

Albayalde said they have not monitored any threats so far.

"Sa ngayon wala pa tayong nakukuhang any threat whatsoever or any terror threat in particular para dito sa ASEAN summit," he said. —Marlly Rome Bondoc/KG, GMA News
