SLEX traffic expected to peak on Sunday

Traffic at the South Luzon Expressway is expected to peak on Sunday as motorists return to Metro Manila after spending the Holy Week break in the provinces.

GMA News' Steve Dailisan on Balitanghali reported light to moderate traffic at the stretch of SLEX.

The traffic will increase by 15 percent, however, from the normal average of 30,000 vehicles around 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. as motorists return to the metropolis.

Counterflow lanes and ambulant tellers have been opened at the northbound lane of Ayala Toll Plaza where motorists from Batangas, Quezon province, and Bicol Region will pass through.

SLEX is also monitoring traffic at the Calamba and Sta. Rosa Toll Plaza.

The report said only minor accidents such as flat tires were monitored on the stretch of SLEX since Saturday evening.

Meanwhile, light traffic was still monitored on the southbound lane of the North Luzon Expressway's Bocaue Toll Plaza.

Traffic at the NLEX is expected to gradually increase due to motorists who will be coming from the northern provinces such as Pampanga, Isabela, Pangasinan, and Cagayan. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/KG, GMA News
