2 drug suspects shot dead in broad daylight in Tondo
Two drug suspects were shot dead in broad daylight by unknown assailants in Tondo, Manila, an exclusive report by GMA News' Emil Sumangil on "24 Oras" said Monday.
A CCTV footage showed the first victim, identified only as Tetey, 34, being shot as he was walking along rail tracks by the suspect who was walking behind him.
Tetey, reportedly a known drug pusher in the area, then dove into a nearby bush, but the gunman still followed him and shot him again. Another CCTV footage showed a second gunman crossing a dike and shooting the victim.
The report said the suspects left Tetey's body in a grassy lot behind a barangay hall and casually walked away from the scene as if nothing happened.
Meanwhile, unknown suspects also killed 26-year-old Ryan Thom Cay along Molave Street around 11 a.m. on Monday.
Investigators initially thought the suspects were riding a motorcycle but a review of the CCTV footage showed they only walked away from the crime scene.
Cay's father, Thomas, admitted the victim was a drug user but only when he had the money to buy them. "Dating gumagamit. Ganoon lang… pag may pera," he said.
Thomas added he was not shocked by the death of his son.
"Parang handa na ako [shocked]. Alam ko na ang mangyayari," he said.
The report said records from Barangays 221, 227, and 228 in Tondo monitored at least 30 killings since July 2016.
The Manila Police District is still investigating the two shooting incidents, the report said. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/KBK, GMA News
