No road closures on Miss Universe 2016 grand coronation night – DOT
Visitors from all over the world are expected to travel to the Philippines to witness the 65th Miss Universe pageant, which will begin with out-of-town activities next week and conclude with the Grand Coronation Night on January 30 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
While the candidates are preparing for the competition, police and security officers are also determined to provide a safe and orderly experience for both the local and international delegates.
According to a report by Aubrey Carampel on Balitanghali, over 1,300 police officers will be designated in different parts of Metro Manila, and more officers will be deployed in Vigan, Baguio, Boracay, Cebu, Batangas, and Davao, for the competition.
The Philippine National Police have coordinated with the Metro Manila Development Authority for traffic management, as well as the Philippine Coast Guard for the security of coastal areas and the Department of Health for medical emergencies.
Despite high security during several activities all over the Philippines, the Department of Tourism assures the residents of Metro Manila that there will be no road closures on the Grand Coronation Night.
According to Department of Tourism Asec. Ricky Alegre, “Very strict ang instructions ng Presidente—do not affect the flow of traffic and do not make it difficult for Manila residents.”
The Department of Transportation earlier announced that the event will not affect the flow of traffic.
The police have made rounds of the venue of the Grand Coronation Night after the fourth security meeting this week, together with representatives from DOT and the event organizers.
Security officers from Davao, Vigan, Cebu, and other provinces have also laid down a high-level security plan during the Miss Universe activities.
“All eyes will be on the Philippines, and the Philippines will take this opportunity to showcase the country as a tourist destination, as well as the peace and order situation of the country,” said P/Supt. Emmanuel Licup, head of security. — BM, GMA News
