Human bones found in abandoned room in Quiapo, Manila

Operatives of the Manila Police District (MPD) found in an abandoned room at the Islamic Center of Quiapo, Manila on Tuesday what appeared to be skeletal remains of human beings.

A "Balitanghali" report on Wednesday, quoting Manny Vargas of radio dzBB, said MPD Homicide Chief Insp. Niel De Castro confirmed finding bones in a hole under the stairs of the abandoned room.

Vargas said the bones were found after children complained of a foul smell emitting from the room.

Barangay 648 Chairman Sultan Yussop and others forced open the passageway, covered with cement, leading to the abandoned room.

Police are verifying reports received by the barangay that the room allegedly used to be a hideout for individuals involved in the drug trade.

Five to six people were allegedly buried in the room before it was abandoned in 2014.

Meanwhile, the MPD will seek the help of a pathologist, DNA expert, and other specialists from the PNP Crime Laboratory to help them in their investigation. — Rie Takumi/VVP, GMA News
