Bomb scare hits area near PNP headquarters

A bomb scare hit a street near the Philippine National Police national headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City before noon Wednesday morning.

A package resembling that of a dynamite with a digital timer and wirings was discovered by garbage collectors doing rounds at 4th Avenue in Brgy. Bagong Lipunan, Quezon City around 11 a.m.

Garbage collector Arnold Golbin immediately sought the help of PO1 Kevin Roland Tobias, an Aviation Security police who was then just buying a uniform in the area.

Tobias then called the PNP Explosives and Ordnance Division for assistance and asked the residents to stay away from the area.

PO2 Jonas Negrito, wearing a bomb suit, of EOD responded and removed the package from the area.

Supt Edwin Ellazar, officer in charge of the EOD operating division of EOD K9, said the package was not a bomb as it had no explosive and the wirings were not connected.

"Isang ordinaryong cardbord lang ito at may digital timer, yung battery hindi ginagamit. Maraming kulang para maconsider na bomba ito," he said.

"Hindi ito capable sumabog," he added.

He said he usually sees such package in their trainings.

"Ginagamit as training aid ito. Ginagamit pag nagtetraining, pag naglelecture," he said.

He said the Quezon City Police District is now investigating the matter. — RSJ, GMA News
